Alternativ PROFINET IO available!

You, as an automation specialist, like to buy everything from a single source. This has advantages for you both in terms of the technical compatibility of the required products and in terms of the commercial administration effort. In return, you may accept a certain price disadvantage, because the time required for familiarisation with new hardware and software is possibly even more expensive than the pure hardware costs - time is money! But what do you do if the products you need from your favourite manufacturer are not available on the announced date? Now, at the latest, it's time to look at alternatives!

The PROFINET remote I/O of the PFN-2000 series offer you an excellent choice for PROFINET I/O applications in which, for example, a SIEMENS S7 or compatible PLC acts as the central control unit and in which further analogue and digital signals have to be processed decentrally. The I/O modules comply with Conformance Class B and RT Class 1 and are therefore particularly suitable for applications where the cycle time is >1ms. The integrated switch with 2 Ethernet ports enables flexible cabling in different topologies. The I/O signals are conveniently connected via push-in plug-in terminals and the module is simply mounted on the DIN rail. The wide input voltage range of 10-30VDC also copes well with somewhat uneven control cabinet voltages.

The I/O range extends from the universal 8DI/8DO module to 10AI with individual channel configuration for mV, V, mA or T/C type J/K/T/etc. to 4AO with 0-10V or 0/4-20mA output. The software integration of the PFN-2000 modules into the PROFINET project is done exactly as usual by importing the associated and supplied GSDML file into the engineering tool.

The advantage of using a widespread and standardised technology such as PROFINET lies precisely in the independence from individual brands or manufacturers. And even if you understandably prefer your own brand, you should also look beyond your own horizon in times of a critical global supply situation. And if, as in the case of PROFINET, you look at compatible alternatives, then the engineering and installation effort is much more manageable than with completely proprietary solutions to which there are no alternatives.
